WhatsApp will not let you send an empty message, and it will not let you send one made of spaces either. The reason is the check it runs on your input: it strips the whitespace from both ends and then asks whether anything remains. Hangul Filler (U+3164) defeats that check on a technicality. Unicode assigns it the category Lo - Other Letter - because it originates in Korean text encoding as a placeholder inside an incomplete Hangul syllable. It renders as nothing, but as far as WhatsApp's validation is concerned it is a letter like any other. Nothing gets stripped, one character remains, and the message sends.
This is also why the trick keeps working across app updates. It is not a bug being patched; it is the ordinary, correct behaviour of whitespace trimming applied to a character that is not whitespace.
